I decided to try the 365 Project. I was inspired by this post by photographer Frank Mckenna. It was one of those things I came across while looking for something else entirely, and I’m glad I did. I have done this kind of thing before, but only privately. This time I’ve joined the 365 Project, and you can follow mine there.
If you’ve never tried taking up the challenge of taking a photo a day, I strongly encourage it even if you don’t think of yourself as a photographer. Not only do you get shots you would have never expected, when you look back an amazing story unfolds. Stuff you would have never remembered. Stuff that just passes you by. Stuff that would otherwise make you say, “I wish I had taken a picture of her that then…” It’s really amazing. Like journaling without the time commitment and all the gory details and somehow more revealing and honest and visceral.
Of course, when I’ve committed myself to this kind of thing in the past, I had to go overboard. Not just a picture a day but a picture of everyone, every single day. There’s good in that, but it can also become something that just isn’t doable. So this time I’m just committing to one. Of course, there will be more than one and I really can drive myself crazy trying to choose, but that’s OK. And, I will probably miss days here and there, especially when it gets down to the task of posting it. That’s OK too.
I hope you’ll join me in this adventure, and I hope you’ll share your photos in the comments here. I would love to see them!
